Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Be Taught In Another Language?

Yes absolutely. Our international team of instructors means we can offer AFF training in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Please notify language upon booking.

I've Done Some Static Line or AFF Jumps Before - Can I Carry on With You?

The best thing to do is to get in touch and let us know about your previous experience and we can advise you of your options. If it’s not been too long since your last jump then you may be able to carry on from where you left off after some refresher training and a check-out jump, but if it’s been a long time you may need to start again. Unfortunately we do not offer Static Line jumping at Skydive Algarve, but you may be able to convert to AFF depending on what stage you are at.

What Happens If The Parachute Doesn't Open?

Parachutes are designed and packed very carefully to make them open. All our parachuting equipment is fitted with two canopies, a main and then a reserve parachute to be used if the main parachute experiences a problem. During your ground school you will be taught how to deal with these kind of emergencies. Your equipment is also fitted with an additional safety device called an ‘RSL’ which will help your reserve parachute deploy.

Is Insurance Included?

All AFF students must provide proof of third party/ public liability insurance for skydiving in Portugal. We will check your insurance when you arrive and it must clearly state, in English, that it covers skydiving, Third party insurance and that Portugal is covered. Although it’s not obligatory we, strongly advise you take a cover for personal accident insurance on top of this. Please contact us for insurance details.

What Time Should I Arrive at the Airfield?

AFF training starts promptly at 9am so students should arrive by 8.30am unless you have been informed otherwise.

All the details you need are explained in your confirmation letter – if you have already booked and not received one please do get in touch with us.

What Do I Need To Bring?

We will provide all the skydiving equipment so you just need to make sure you bring thin layers of clothing to wear under your jumpsuit so it’s not too bulky and allows for movement. Regular trainers are the best footwear. In the Summer months you won’t need a great deal except a hat, suncream and sunglasses, but in winter you will want a fleece for example as it is a little chiller at 15,000ft. You might want to bring a book to read during any downtime and free Wi-fi is available in the café.

What Are Consols?

Consols are ‘consolidation jumps’, so-called because they are designed to be used to ‘consolidate’ what you have learnt during your AFF Levels before we let you loose on the skydiving world! As you will have only competed 7 jumps you are still very new to the sport and there is an intermediate period when you are still classed as a ‘student skydiver’ and must still be supervised by a qualified skydiving instructor on the ground before you jump, and in the aircraft. However you will exit the plane completely solo on your consol jumps.

Do Many People Have to Repeat Jumps?

Some students sail straight through and others have a sticking point. It is difficult to predict how you will take to skydiving until you start. Please do come with a contingency fund in case you do need to pay for any additional jumps as these are charged in addition to the course price.

What Happens If I Don't Complete the AFF Course During My Trip?

Your credit will remain on account with us and you can return to finish of the course. Please note if there is a long period of time during which time you have not jumped then, for your own safety, you may need to repeat a level or undergo further training – these ‘currency’ requirements will be outlined in your AFF course manual.

We also offer the option to complete your course back in the UK at Skydive Hibaldstow, ideal for British AFF student, or at Skydive Spain in Seville.
